I’d like to introduce you to a sizzling delight: Spicy Chicken Wings! This recipe packs a punch with its zesty marinade and fiery sauce, making it a favorite for gatherings or game nights.
Originating from the deep-fried delights of American cuisine, spicy chicken wings have gained popularity worldwide for their addictive flavor and easy preparation.
Preparing this dish doesn’t require culinary expertise, but it does promise a burst of flavor that will have your taste buds dancing.
The marinade, featuring classic ingredients like garlic, ginger, and lemon juice, infuses the chicken wings with layers of spice and tanginess. Meanwhile, the sauce, concocted with olive oil, garlic, and a blend of chili sauces, elevates the wings to mouthwatering heights.
Despite its simplicity, achieving the perfect balance of crispiness and tenderness in the chicken wings requires attention to detail.
Frying them until golden brown ensures a satisfying crunch with every bite. Once coated in the spicy sauce, these wings are ready to steal the show at any gathering.
Expert Tip: Experiment with different levels of spiciness by adjusting the amount of chili powder, crushed chilies, or chili sauce in the marinade and sauce.
Chicken Wings: These provide juicy, tender meat that absorbs the flavors of the marinade and sauce.
Chilli Powder: Adds a kick of heat to the marinade, giving the wings their spicy flavor profile.
Salt: Enhances the overall taste of the wings and helps to season the chicken.
Black Pepper: Provides a subtle heat and depth of flavor to complement the other spices in the marinade.
Garlic Paste: Infuses the chicken with aromatic garlic flavor, adding depth and complexity to the dish.
Ginger Paste: Offers a hint of warmth and pungency to the marinade, balancing the spice with its unique flavor.
Lemon Juice: Adds a bright, citrusy zing to the marinade, enhancing the overall freshness of the dish.
Egg: Helps to bind the marinade ingredients together, ensuring they coat the chicken wings evenly.
Corn Flour: Contributes to the crispiness of the chicken wings when fried, creating a satisfying crunch.
Plain Flour: Further enhances the crispiness of the chicken wings and helps to achieve a golden brown exterior when fried.
Olive Oil: Forms the base of the sauce, adding richness and depth of flavor to the dish.
Crushed Chillies: Intensifies the heat of the sauce, adding an extra layer of spiciness to the chicken wings.
Chilli Sauce: Provides a bold, fiery flavor to the sauce, complementing the spiciness of the wings.
Tomato Ketchup: Adds a touch of sweetness and tanginess to the sauce, balancing out the heat and creating a well-rounded flavor profile.
Expert Tip: For an extra kick of flavor, marinate the chicken wings overnight in the refrigerator. This allows the spices to penetrate the meat, resulting in even more delicious wings.
Expert Tip: To ensure crispy wings, pat the chicken dry with paper towels before marinating.
To achieve maximum crispiness, ensure that the chicken wings are thoroughly dried before marinating and frying. This helps to remove excess moisture, allowing the wings to crisp up beautifully when fried. Additionally, frying the wings at the right temperature (around 350-375°F or 175-190°C) and avoiding overcrowding the pan will help them cook evenly and become crispy.
Yes, you can bake the chicken wings for a healthier alternative to frying. Simply preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C), place the marinated wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, and bake for 40-45 minutes or until they are cooked through and crispy, flipping halfway through the cooking time.
Absolutely! Feel free to adjust the amount of chili powder, crushed chilies, or chili sauce in the sauce according to your preference for spiciness. You can also add a touch of honey or brown sugar to balance out the heat if desired.
Ideally, marinate the chicken wings for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to penetrate the meat. However, for even more flavor, you can marinate them for up to 24 hours in the refrigerator. Just be sure to let the wings come to room temperature before frying or baking.
While the wings are best enjoyed fresh and hot, you can prepare the marinade and sauce ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. You can also marinate the chicken wings in advance and fry or bake them when ready to serve. However, keep in mind that the wings may lose some crispiness if reheated.

What is the time and temp for air frying? What about for baking?
I haven’t personally tried this recipe in an air fryer before, but you can experiment with preheating the air fryer to around 375°F and checking the food periodically until it’s cooked to your liking.
For baking, you can start with a similar temperature and adjust the timing based on how it’s baking. Let me know if you give it a try!
Great recipe! I found that baking the chicken wings also works.
