Have you ever tried Chicken Pakora Strips? This crispy and flavourful recipe has a fascinating history that dates back to the Indian subcontinent. Originating in Pakistan, this dish has become a popular appetiser in many countries around the world.

The recipe for Chicken Pakora Strips may seem challenging at first, but with a few simple ingredients and some basic cooking skills, you can easily recreate this delicious dish at home. The key to a successful Chicken Strips Pakora lies in the combination of spices and the crispy texture of the chicken strips.

Ingredients

Chicken: Chicken is the main ingredient in this recipe. It provides a delicious and protein-rich base for the pakoras.

Gram Flour: Gram flour, also known as chickpea flour, is a staple ingredient in many pakora recipes. It helps to create a crispy coating on the chicken strips.

Cornflour: Cornflour is often used in breading mixtures to help create a light and crispy texture. It works together with the gram flour to coat the chicken strips.

Egg: The egg acts as a binding agent in this recipe, helping the breading to stick to the chicken strips. It also adds richness and moisture to the dish.

Lemon Juice: Lemon juice adds a bright and citrusy flavor to the chicken strips. It also helps to tenderize the chicken and balance out the richness of the dish.

Chilli Powder: Chilli powder provides heat and spice to the chicken strips. It adds a depth of flavor and a bit of kick to the dish.

Kashmiri Chilli Powder: Kashmiri chilli powder is known for its vibrant color and medium level of heat. It adds a beautiful hue to the chicken strips and a subtle warmth.

Coriander Seeds: Coriander seeds are ground up and added to the breading mixture to provide a fragrant and slightly citrusy flavor to the chicken strips.

Crushed Chilli: Crushed chilli adds extra heat and a more intense chili flavor to the chicken strips. It provides a spicy kick to the dish.

Salt: Salt is a crucial ingredient in any dish, helping to enhance the flavors of the other ingredients. It also helps to season the chicken strips.

Turmeric Powder: Turmeric powder adds a warm golden color to the chicken strips and a slightly earthy flavor. It also offers numerous health benefits.

Dried Fenugreek: Dried fenugreek, also known as kasuri methi, adds a unique and slightly bitter flavor to the chicken strips. It enhances the overall taste of the dish.

Serving Suggestions and Variations

For serving suggestions, Chicken Strips Pakora can be served as a delicious appetizer or snack on its own with a side of mint chutney or tamarind chutney for dipping. It can also be served as a main dish with a side of steamed rice or naan bread.

For variations, you can try adding different spices or herbs to the marinade for a unique flavor profile. Some ideas include adding cumin powder, garam masala, or ginger-garlic paste. You can also experiment with different types of chillies to adjust the level of spiciness to your liking.

  • Try marinating the chicken strips in yogurt and tikka masala paste before coating them in the batter for a creamy and flavorful twist.
  • For a healthier option, you can bake the chicken strips in the oven instead of deep-frying them. Simply place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and bake at 400°F for 20-25 minutes, turning halfway through cooking.
  • For a vegetarian version, you can substitute the chicken with paneer or mixed vegetables such as bell peppers, onions, and potatoes.
  • To make a gluten-free version, you can use a mixture of chickpea flour and rice flour instead of gram flour.
  • If you prefer a lighter coating, you can use a combination of breadcrumbs and cornmeal for a crispy texture.
  • For a tangy kick, squeeze some lemon juice over the cooked pakoras before serving.
